Training and Awareness Programmes for Parents and Families of Persons with Disabilities
Equipping families across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to support their loved ones with confidence.
Between February and March 2019, SMART Foundation conducted a series of training and awareness programmes for parents and families of persons with disabilities. The programmes were supported by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
District-level programmes were held in Udaipur, Bhilwara and Jodhpur in February 2019, reaching 456 parents and family members. In March, the work moved to block level, with 12 programmes in Udaipur, further sessions in Bhilwara and Jodhpur, and 5 programmes in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, reaching another 303 people.
Families are the first and most constant source of care for a person with a disability. By taking these sessions to the district and block level, the programme brought practical awareness and support closer to the homes where it matters most.
